Quick Facts
- How Often? Every day
- Why? Maintain and protect your smile
- Who? All ages
Between dental visits, daily home care is critical to maintain a healthy, beautiful smile. In addition to eating a balanced diet and limiting the intake of foods and drinks that damage teeth, proper brushing and flossing significantly improves oral health.
Brushing
Webster Dental Care encourages patients to brush their teeth at least twice a day with a soft bristle brush. When using a traditional toothbrush, hold the brush at a 45-degree angle and use small circular motions to clean the surface of the teeth, gums, and tongue. Electric toothbrushes are highly effective at plaque removal when used in a rotating motion. After brushing, rinse thoroughly with water or a dentist-approved rinse to help battle bacteria and prevent gum disease such as gingivitis.
Flossing
Daily flossing is essential to clean plaque from the hard to reach spaces like between the teeth and under the gums where brushing alone cannot reach. When flossing, it is important to reach both sides of the teeth as well as under the gum line.
